Rumored Closeted Republican Politician of The Week: Richard Nixon!

By Jack Brummet, Presidents Editor

This article was just sent by reader Dean Ericksen: Rumored Closeted Republican Politician of The Week: Richard Nixon!
This is a mind-effer of all mind-effers.  As a long-time Nixon student (see our articles on him, below), I'd never caught even a whiff of this one before.  Yeah, we knew Bebe and The Trickster had a close friendship, but Hoover-Tolson close?   Sure, the evidence is pretty flimsy, but it torques the mind to even consider that bright, but thoroughly mean-spirited misanthrope holding hands under the table with Bebe Rebozo!  Unfortunately, neither Bebe or Tricky Dick are around anymore to ask. . .

Representative Anthony "Owner of a lonely penis" Weiner's last six hours in office

By Pablo Fanque
All This Is That National Affairs Editor

Rep. Anthony Weiner, New York City's disgraced congressman, and the most famous Tweeter in The Beltway, finally got around to submitting his resignation today.   He will remain a Representative until midnight.

The larger question is when will we see him return (after "treatment"), and how?  As a lobbyist, with a television program, or will he actually run for Mayor of NYC, or, in the obits?

Glenn Beck, Anthony Weiner, John Boehner and remembering back to when Edmund Muskie's crying speech ended his Presidential campaign

By Jack Brummet, Social Mores Editor

This is the year of the weeper, isn't it?  Thinking about Congressman Anthony Weiner's tear-filled confession/press conference today, it reminded me of a couple of other public weepers on the other side of the aisle--Glenn Beck and Speaker of the House John Boehner.

When did it become OK for politicians to cry? It wasn't so long ago (it happened in the first election in which I could vote) when public boo-hooing ended Edmund Muskie's candidacy for President.

I guess Senator Muskie was just ahead of his time.

The "Canuck letter" was a bogus letter to the editor (the notorious William Loeb) of the Manchester Union Leader, published just two weeks before the 1972 New Hampshire primary.  The letter implied that candidate Senator Muskie was prejudiced against French-Canadian Americans (an important constituency in Maine).  The letter writer claimed to have met Muskie and his staff in Florida and asked The Senator how he could understand the problems of African Americans, given Maine's almost non-existent black population. According to the letter, a staffer responded, "Not blacks, but we have Canucks." Muskie laughed at the remark.

After the letter appeared, Muskie gave a speech in front of the Union Leader's office that came to be known in political circles as "the crying speech."   In The Crying Speech, Muskie called publisher William Loeb a liar and took him to task for slurring the character of his wife Jane (the paper had also written that she was a heavy drinker and had a foul mouth).  Network news and the newspapers reported that Muskie wept openly during the speech.  David Broder, in The Washington Post, wrote that Muskie "broke down three times in as many minutes"; The CBS Evening News showed unflattering photos of Muskie's face at, or near, weeping.  No doubt helping unhinge Muskie was the fact that William Loeb had previously baited Muskie, calling him "Moscow Muskie," and a flip-flopper.

According to the Wikipedia (and I remember him saying this at the time), "Muskie later stated that what had appeared to the press as tears were actually melted snowflakes, the press reported that Muskie broke down and cried, shattering the candidate's image as calm and reasoned."

When The Senator was outed as a weeper, he was, natch, thought to be emotionally and dangerously unstable ("is this who you want negotiating the fate of the world with Leonid Brezhnev?"

New Hampshire Democrats began to defect to George McGovern. Although Muskie beat McGovern  46% to 37%, the margin was far smaller than his campaign had predicted. McGovern now had momentum, and by the time of the Florida primary, Ed Muskie, the one-time front-runner, was Dead Man Walking.

Marilyn Berger, a Washington Post staff writer, wrote that White House staffer Ken Clawson once bragged to her about authoring the letter, which Clawson immediately denied.   In October 1972, FBI investigators said that the Canuck Letter was part of a dirty tricks campaign against Democrats orchestrated by the Committee for the Re-Election of the President (CRP).  Loeb, publisher of the Manchester Union Leader, always said that the letter was not a fabrication (but he later had some doubts about its veracity).  The alleged letter writer, one Paul Morrison of Deerfield Beach, FLA was never tracked down, if he ever existed at all.

Anthony Weiner: Dead Man Walking

In his delayed press conference this afternoon, Congressman Anthony Weiner said basically: I lied multiple times. I did it all. But, I'm not resigning.

Did BHO play hide the salami with Vera Baker, or did The Enquirer pillage their medicine cabinet again?

By Pablo Fanque
All This Is That National Affairs Editor

The story of an alleged Barack Obama affair is based on unconfirmed allegations and the flimsiest possible whisperings.  As you know, however, The Enquirer has broken other unlikely/unbelievable stories in recent years; we're hoping they jumped the gun this time.   It's not a new story; let's face it, it's not even a news story. . .but it's breaking wider this time around.

Earlier incarnations of the story were usually brushed aside as the ravings or deliberate disinformation of deranged bloggers.  However--and how times have changed!--the Enquirer picking up the story almost grants their (rather dubious)  imprimatur to the rest of the press.  Or at least the rest of the press willing to go way out on a limb.

The story alleged that BHO was caught in a Washington, D.C. Hotel with a former campaign aide, Vera Baker.  Baker was the Finance Director for Barack Obama's 2004 Illinois Senate campaign

The Enquirer writes:  "A confidential investigation has learned that Obama first became close to gorgeous 35 year-old VERA BAKER in 2004 when she worked tirelessly to get him elected to the US Senate, raising millions in campaign contributions."

Interestingly, the Wikipedia has an article on her under consideration for deletion.  There are numerous pictures floating around on websites and blogs that may or may not be Vera Baker.  By all reports, she is a good looking woman, for whatever that's worth.  You'd think it wouldn't be that hard to track down--she was an Obama campaign official in 2004.
Investigators (not clear whose--Obamas?  The National Enquierers?) are searching for a hotel surveillance videotape.   According to The Enquirer, Baker has insisted in the past that "nothing happened" between them.  The magazine also reports that top anti-Obama operatives (could that be you Ex-Gov. Palin, tossing around your $12 million in royalties?) are offering more than $1 million to witnesses to reveal what they know about the alleged hush-hush affair.

Someone has apparently offered cash to a limo driver who says that he took Vera to a secret hotel rendezvous in a Washington hotel where Obama was staying in 2004.   "A reporter confirmed the limo driver's account of the secret 2004 rendezvous and has also learned that on-site hotel surveillance video camera footage could provide indisputable evidence to the investigation."

Sandrarose.com claims "the Hillary Clinton campaign dug up background information on Barack Obama’s mistress, Vera Baker, in 2008, but decided not to run with the scandal — probably because Hillary knew she would lose the campaign and might need a favor from Obama later on."

Another blogspot blogger writes that "the woman was purportedly sidelined from her duties after Senator Obama’s wife, Michelle, became convinced that he had developed a personal friendship with her."

Without any new, concrete evidence, it seems like this story is destined to fade away quickly, just as it has when it has appeared before in the fringe press, or, new media as they prefer to be called.

John "Douchebag" Edwards DNA matched to baby mama Rielle Hunter

By Pablo Fanque
All This Is That National Affairs Editor
You won't be hearing much from John Edwards anymore. He is now the next gen's Gary Hart, a guy who threw away national office by "stepping out" on his wife. He could have been Attorney General or VP. He could have even mounted a challenge to Obama.
To make matters worse, he has lied about the paternity for years now, even when it was certain to come out. Good riddance, John. I can't believe I ever thought you were the guy. When did you finally break down and tell Elizabeth?

Ex-Senator John Edwards back on the griddle, starring in a sex tape

By Pablo Fanque,
All This Is That National Affairs Editor

You'd think the recent disgrace of Governor Mark Sanford and Senator John Ensign's sex scandals might take some of the heat off John Edwards. At the moment, it seems to have ratcheted up the scrutiny, since the Edwards case goes much deeper--involving paternity, a dying wife, and possible payoffs.

Andrew Young, one of ex-Senator John Edwards's closest aides, is writing a book in which he says Edwards told him he “would be taken care of for life” if he would say that he fathered the baby of Edwards’s girlfriend, Rielle Hunter. The aide (who is not the former ambassador), sold the book to St. Martin’s Press last week. In his proposal, Young says Edwards begged him to confess to fathering the baby.

Hunter and Edwards on the campaign trail

“You know how much I love you," Edwards told Young. "You know I’d walk off a cliff for you, and I know you’d walk off a cliff for me. ” Parts of this story were leaked by someone at the publisher to both the NY Times and the NY Daily News last weekend.

Rielle and baby

In the meantime, feds are looking at whether to prosecute John Edwards if it turns out campaign funds were funneled as hush money to Rielle Hunter or Andrew Young. In 2007, you may recall, Young's attorney said his client was the father just before the Iowa caucus season.

The biggest bombshell appeared in a New York Times article today: Young’s proposal states he was writing the book because he had become disillusioned with the Senator's recklessness after finding a sex tape starring John Edwards and Rielle Hunter. It should be a good one--how many sex tapes are actually filmed by a cinematographer?! How long can it be before the tape appears on the Internet, if it's not out there already? As for Edwards's relationship with his wife--as she said, "it's complicated."

Both Mark Sanford and John Ensign called for Bill Clinton's impeachment following the Lewinsky revelations

By Pablo Fanque
All This Is That National Affairs Editor

Governor Sanford weeps at a press conference yesterday. He also claimed he spent five days crying in a Buenos Aires hotel room after ending his affair.

John Ensign and his playmate (an employee and wife of a friend)

In the days of the Lewinksy-Clinton scandal, both Mark Sanford and John Ensign called on Bill Clinton to resign the Presidency after his affair. So far, they don't appear to be following the same advice. . .aside from resigning from a few positions and committees.

Elliott Spitzer talked about family values. John Edwards talked about the sanctity of his marriage. Both Sanford and Ensign have said plenty of sanctimonious things in their careers. We won't call them former careers quite yet. At least Sanford followed the fifty mile run and took it out of the country. Ensign's affair was with a family friend.

Neither of the two currently in the doghouse have indicated they might Do The Right Thing. Oh, and hey, Mark Sanford. . .did you really spend five days in your hotel room in Argentina crying? Were you crying over having to break it off with the hot Argentine babe, or about having to go home to your wife. And the voters?

Up in smoke: Republican Gov, Mark Sanford's Presidential Dreams and another nail in the coffin of "Republican Family Values"

By Pablo Fanque
All This Is That
National Affairs (and we do mean affairs) Editor

The beleaguered governor and the Ex-President

That wacky Republican, South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford, 'fessed up Wednesday to an affair. Not only an affair, but an affair with a foreigner. He also just resigned his position as chair of the Republican Governor's Association. All this follows a strange week in which he dropped off the map, and his staff was lying about his whereabouts. During this period, when he could not be located, he was actually south of the border, playing hide the salami with his "girlfriend."
A local newspaper, The State, obtained and reprinted one of his emails to "Maria":

"You have the ability to give magnificent gentle kisses, or that I love your tan lines or that I love the curve of your hips, the erotic beauty of you holding yourself ... in the faded glow of the night’s light ... despite the best efforts of my head my heart cries out for you, your voice, your body, the touch of your lips, the touch of your finger tips and an even deeper connection to your soul.”

Sanford and his no doubt soon to be filing for divorce wife

“I have been unfaithful to my wife. I developed a relationship with what started out as a dear, dear friend from Argentina,” Sanford said in a rambling and often emotional news conference at the state capital in Columbia.

“I’m a bottom line kind of guy I’m just gonna lay it out. It’s gonna hurt and I’m going to let the chips fall where they may,” said Sanford, who, until today, has often been mentioned as a 2012 presidential hopeful.

John Edwards experienced a Penile Zipper Injury in his rush to escape the Beverly Hilton Hotel

By Pablo Fanque,
All This Is That National Affairs Editor

I wrote an article a couple of days ago, in which I stated that All This Is That had published its last article on Ex-Senator John Edwards. I should have said "next to last."

How was I to know that I would be in the Formosa Cafe in Hollywood the next day, striking up a conversation with a young woman who turned out to be an intern at Cedars Sinai Medical Center (near Beverly Hills and West Hollywood)? Or that she had treated, along with a resident, a man named "Jack Olson" who was in fact John Edwards? And that she would treat him for a trauma that most often occurs in young boys?

You may snigger, but in fact, Ex-Senator Edwards experienced a common emergency room complaint about which dozens of articles have been published in medical journals. Look here. Or here.

As it turns out, my intern friend, Jenny, treated the Ex-Senator for a Penile Zipper Injury. She only understood what actually happened after the National Enquirer broke the story wide open. The Senator was in a hurry to zip up and hightail it out of the Beverly Hilton Hotel when he experienced a most painful misfire. The injury did not require catgut sutures, but did necessitate application of an ointment and dressing to the former Senator's tallywhacker. John Edwards was zipping up quickly as he realized the hotel was crawling with reporters and photographers.

"Jack Olson" and Rielle "Baby Mama" Hunter

The zipper injury John Edwards incurred has thus far not been mentioned in the press. Until today.

A family affair? John McCain will not likely suffer the slings and arrows that now plague Ex-Senator John Edwards

John McCain will not likely suffer the slings and arrows that now plague Ex-Senator John Edwards. He had his own "affair" blow up last year, on the front page of the New York Times, and hundreds of other websites and blogs. But his wife stood steadfast. And how could she not?

Cindy McCain is John McCain's second wife. They were married in 1980. He admits to having an affair with her while he was married to his first wife, Carol. How angry can Cindy McCain really be when he husband steps out? No harm, no foul. John Edwards, on the other hand, had hell to pay at home. . .the same kind of hell that Elliott Spitzer, Mark Foley, and Larry Craig had to undergo.

I am pretty sure the next big political sex scandal will involve both partners: isn't it time we had a really good scandal with swingers (a/k/a "wife-swappers")? There has to be someone running who was involved in a key party or hot tub orgy somewhere, somehow. . .

John Edwards and Rielle Hunter: the long, slow slide into obscurity begins

illustration from Co-Ed Magazine

By Pablo Fanque
All This Is That National Affairs Editor

This is our last posting on Ex-Senator John Edwards, in order to let him drift into the obscurity he so richly deserves. . .like the old televisions in the 50's and 60's. . .when you turned them off, the picture collapsed to a small dot in the center of the screen that slowly faded away. John Edwards has hinted that he intends to carve out some sort of public role for himself, but that's the same delusional thinking that led to his current predicament. It's time to air the stench out of All This Is That.

According to today's Daily News, "John Edwards didn't confess his adultery with his flaky videographer, Rielle Hunter, until after he officially announced his presidential run in December 2006."

The National Enquirer reports that "Edwards didn't confess until after an unwitting campaign staffer walked in on him with Hunter and word got back to his wife, who confronted him." They further report: "They broke up a bunch of times, especially when Elizabeth was rediagnosed [with cancer]," a friend of Hunter's, Texas publicist Pigeon O'Brien, told People. "But they got back together."

And a "bombshell" that will surprise no one who has followed the story: "sources close to Hunter say that Edwards and his mistress choreographed their public tango over a DNA test: he offered to take one last week, she declined to allow it. "They worked that out together in advance," a source described only as "an insider" told the Enquirer. "She's still protecting John because she loves him and thinks they may eventually have a future together."

Politico.com puts John Edwards' Rielle Hunter confession into perspective

Politico.com put the John Edwards confession of an affair with Rielle Hunter into perspective. Not only did he cheat on his wife, and lie, but he risked sinking the entire Democratic party:

"Former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards, who cast himself as the most electable of Democratic presidential hopefuls, admitted Friday that he held — and lied about — a secret that could have destroyed his campaign and his party’s hopes for the White House.

"Edwards’ confirmation of an extramarital affair with a woman he met in a New York bar shakes the public persona of a man whose image was deeply linked to his role as a devoted husband. It effectively rules him out as a vice presidential nominee, and it may cost him a prime-time speaking slot at the Democratic National Convention — though Edwards is still considering a convention appearance." Spitzer's replacement David Paterson admits hot affair and MILF Michelle 'fesses up to being rodgered outside the connubial confines of marriage

By Pablo Fanque
All This Is That National Affairs Editor
03-18-2008 12:00 AM PDT

The very same day he took over for horndog Elliott Spitzer, New York Governor David Paterson, told the Daily News that he and his wife have had extramarital affairs. Both Paterson, 53, and his tasty wife, Michelle, 46, acknowledged in an interview they each had intimate relationships with others several years ago.

Paterson said he had a relationship for two or three years with "a woman other than my wife," beginning in 1999.

Asked if he had stayed with anyone else since 2001 at the same West Side hotel, Paterson said, "From time to time I used to take Michelle to that hotel."

The First Couple agreed to speak publicly about their—what was once called open—marriage after an outbreak of rumors about Paterson's personal life began circulating among the press corps in the last week.

No one can really get up in arms about The Governor sneaking around, or the wronged wife this time. He maintains some sort of cred despite the affair. . .because he was getting it for free, and she was working her own angle. In a curious side-note, Paterson is legally blind, which seems not to preclude an eye for the ladies.

What's the deal these last few years with statehouse sex scandals in New York and New Jersey? It's King Midas In Reverse all over again.

It wasn't the babes, it was the bucks: Spitzer brings down yet another prostitution ring

It wasn't the babes, it was the bucks, according to Brian Ross on the ABC News website. And get this: they're thinking of prosecuting him under an obscure law for "structuring," which is more or less money laundering to cover up the source of cash (which is just what he did). Curiously, this is the third prostitution ring the former Attorney General of New York brought down. . .this one by accident.

"The federal investigation of a New York prostitution ring was triggered by Gov. Eliot Spitzer's suspicious money transfers, initially leading agents to believe Spitzer was hiding bribes, according to federal officials. "

They didn't start out investigating the hookers prostitutes call girls escorts. It was Spitzer they were onto after his bank notified the feds of suspicious financial activity. The FBI uncovered his emails and wiretapped his phones. It seems Elliott didn't follow his own advice:

"Never talk when you can nod, and never nod when you can wink, and never write an e-mail because it's death. You're giving prosecutors all the evidence we need," Spitzer told ABC News two years ago.

Dumb-ass of the week: Client No. 9 Governor Spitzer

Silda Spizter stands besides Client No. 9 at a press
conference this morning

With the stunning news this morning that New York Governor Eliot Spitzer has been implicated in a prostitution ring, we can now call him "Client Number 9." Spitzer was one of the johns described in a recently unsealed FBI affidavit detailing the operation of the Emperors Club, a call girl ring. The affidavit describes hooker interactions with ten johns, including one client who paid cash for a February 13 sex session at a Washington, D.C. hotel.

The New York Times identifies the 48-year-old politician as Client-9. Client-9 (clearly a repeat customer) apparently went to great lengths to arrange the illicit Washington encounter, choosing to mail money in advance to the ring, instead of using a credit card. Client-9, whose conversations were recorded by an FBI wiretap, would not do "traditional wire transferring," the FBI affidavit quotes one Emperors Club.

One of the call-girls spoke with a Emperors Club scheduler, who said that she had been told that Client-9 "would ask you to do things that, like, you might not think were safe..." "Kristen" responded saying that she could handle guys like that, like the soon to be Ex-Governor.

Spitzer, was often called Elliott Ness when he was attorney general. He was a corruption fighter--and had several high profile tussles with Wall Street while serving as attorney. He also prosecuted at least one prostitution ring in his tenure. But the corruption he routed out apparently didn't extend to his own conduct.

The Emperors Club VIP web site shows a range of hourly rates, for the women who are ranked on a one diamond to 7 diamond scale. A seven-diamond gal would have set the Governor back $5,500 an hour.

Of course, Spitzer's wife stood by him at the press conference. Most people expect he will resign sometime today or tonight. I wonder what Senator Clinton would say? She can't win either way--she has to really hope this goes away fast!
